Blogging hiatus 🀦🏻‍♀️

Anybody else still working on getting back into a normal swing? Whew!

It's been a crazy year and I've had all I can do to keep my personal and professional lives organized and flowing smoothly, let alone managing my digital life. Nothing life altering, just life in general keeping me busy to the extremes. My youngest son is marching with his high school band in the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, CA on Jan 1st! We are quite excited as my husband and I will also be making the trip with the band. It's been a whirlwind of planning and preparing but will so worth it in the end!

My hope moving forward is to get the blog back up and running on a consistent basis as I've missed the connections and collaborations from near and far that have come from this space!!!

So here's to my first post moving forward....

This morning I did my monthly Breakfast Bytes meeting with my staff. (This is a monthly meeting where we discuss technology and tech integration) December is always such a crazy time of year so I theme the meeting around tips and tricks in hopes that everyone will walk away with one or two small tidbits.

Did you know that you can now insert stickers and gifs
into your Google Slidedeck directly from the Insert Image menu?

Or that there is now a pen tool that you can use when in slidedeck mode?

To view these tips and others, slide on over to the Breakfast Bytes page of the blog and click on this month's image on the Padlet board!

If you pick up a new tip or have a great tip to share, leave a comment below to let us know!

Merry Christmas everyone!! Enjoy your time away with family and friends!

Malchow's Tech Bytes πŸ‘©πŸ»‍πŸ’» ~ October 4th

Week 2 of CrAzY~ my 2nd building was informed last Sunday afternoon that we were shutting down and moving to virtual Monday morning. On Monday, we found out the entire district was shutting down as of Wednesday and moving to virtual (as had the majority of districts around us). Needless to say, WI is not in a good position right now and the sad realization is that the cases are not coming from the schools, it's community levels that are shutting us down. We are tentatively down for 3 weeks and crossing our fingers that we'll be back in our buildings with kids at that time. 🀞🏼🀞🏼🀞🏼🀞🏼🀞🏼🀞🏼🀞🏼🀞🏼🀞🏼🀞🏼🀞🏼🀞🏼 (Everything crossed!)

I hope there are some tips and tricks that you will find useful this week for whatever environment you are currently teaching in.

Malchow's Tech Bytes~ Sept 28th

It's been a busy week to say the least. One of my elementary buildings had to move to virtual learning this week while my other building is still meeting in person for the time being. In addition to supporting teachers in various ways this week, I also had the opportunity to sub in a kindergarten classroom. This week's Seesaw corner is for all of my kindergarten friends.

Malchow's Tech Bytes (Virtual Learning) Edition~ 4/20 πŸ‘©πŸ»‍πŸ’»

Ahhhhh..... what a difference a week makes! Although it was still a super busy week with lots of techie things to do, I feel like I was able to breathe a little more easily and found a bit of time to get some of the things on my own to do list done! Sweet Success!!!!

So with that said, this week brings both my normal Tech Bytes newsletter as well as the newsletter info that I am putting together for my colleagues.
My building newsletter this week has tips to support using Google Meet for video conferences while my normal newsletter brings you integration ideas for remote learning.

I hope you can find a resource of two to help you out this week!
Simply click either of the pictures to go to the Google slidedeck where you will find
both of this week's slides as well as all previous editions of my Tech Bytes newsletters.

Google Meet Tips & Tricks: Remove student names & URLs

In our new world of remote learning, student privacy is more important than it ever has been! For this reason, it is extremely important that you protect your students' privacy when sharing information on social media.

Video conferencing is an amazing way for us to collaborate with our students and stay in touch with what is going on in their lives. With that excitement, we often find ourselves wanting to share that excitement with others, whether that be on social media or across a platform like Seesaw with our students' parents. Often times, that excitement takes the form of a screenshot that we share out. Did you stop to think though that student first and last names show up on those screenshots? Did you also know that others can possibly join your Meet if they type in the url?

This video will show you how to quickly blackout student names and blackout or crop the url off of your picture on a MacBook using Preview. Take a peek and keep your students' safety and privacy at the forefront of your connections and your social media sharing!
